If you don't have a plunger on hand, it can be tough to know how to unclog a toilet without one. Maybe you don’t want to call a plumbing company to fix a simple clog.
Don't worry, there are a few easy ways that you can try to unclog your toilet without calling a local plumbing company right away. All you need to do is follow these easy solutions, but be careful some complications may occur making your plumbing issue even worse.
Here's how to do it:
1. Use a bucket to remove enough water from the clogged toilet. The amount of water will depend on the size of your toilet bowl, but you want to make sure that there is enough water to cover the clog.
2. Use a generous amount of dish soap to the remaining water.
3. Use a mop or brush to agitate the water and soap mixture until it forms bubbles. The dish soap will help to break down the clog.
4. If the water level goes down and the toilet operates normally you’ll know you have successfully fixed the clogged toilet. However, it could be a temporary solution and you may experience recurring clogs.
1. Boil a pot of water on the stove or use hot water from the bathtub.
2. Carefully pour the hot water into the clogged toilet.
3. Let the hot water sit for a few minutes to loosen the blockage.
4. Flush the toilet to clear the clog. Be ready in case the clog did not break up to avoid spillage. Having a bucket on hand can save you from a bunch of dirty water clean up.
1. Completely fill a 2 liter plastic bottle with water (or a bottle large enough to fill the drain opening). Be sure to protect your mouth, eyes, and hands with appropriate coverings to avoid any unsanitary splash back.
2. Cover the opening of the bottle with your gloved thumb and place the water bottle directly over the clogged drain in the toilet bowl ensuring you get a tight seal.
3. Apply pressure to the water bottle with both hands to release the water into the clogged drain hole.
4. The clog should start to break up and flush away. If the clog is more stubborn, and this doesn’t work, it may be time to call a licensed plumber.
1. Make sure the toilet bowl is about half-full.
2. Pour 1 cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl.
3. Slowly pour 1 cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl. The reaction will cause expansion and fizzing in the bowl to break up the clog. If you notice the foam getting too close to the edge of the bowl, stop pouring the vinegar.
4. Let the baking soda and vinegar mixture sit for a few minutes to break up the clog.
5. Flush the toilet to clear the clogged drain with a bucket on hand in case of spillage. If you choose to use this method, only try it once to avoid making the clogged toilet worse. Using this method could cause further issues by adding more material to the blockage resulting in the need for a toilet repair.
